Review of the My Health Records Legislative Instruments
As the Department undertakes its review of the My Health Records Legislative Instruments, AHPA encourages the review to be considered with the following key facts in mind:
The inclusion of allied health professional generated clinical information within My Health Record, regardless of the technological solutions available, is critical to achieving the Government’s Digital reform agenda and facilitating multidisciplinary care teams to function optimally
The scope of practice of allied health professionals is continually expanding
There is a large diversity of professions, and consequently, a wide range of clinical information that needs to be included
The development of consistent terminology data sets containing terms key to allied health practice must be prioritised to enable the inclusion of clinical information into My Health Record in a meaningful and discoverable manner
Enabling information to be available from the generating health care professional as soon as possible is key for consumer safety
Consumers need to be empowered to control their record and decide who in their care team can access and contribute to it.
AHPA looks forward to collaborating with the Department and other key stakeholders to distribute education and training material related to communicating any changes made.
