AHPA’s Pre-Budget Submission 2026-27 calls for targeted investment to strengthen the allied health workforce

AHPA’s pre-budget submission 2026-27 calls for targeted investment to strengthen the allied health workforce and ensure Australians in regional, rural and remote communities can continue to access safe, high-quality care.

To achieve this, we have identified three key budget priorities for government action:

  1. Sector enablers
Invest in the core foundations that enable a productive and connected allied health workforce, including digital capability, data, infrastructure and regulatory settings. These enablers support service integration, reduce administrative burden and improve system efficiency.

  2. Workforce development
Targeted investment to grow, skill and retain the allied health workforce, ensuring capacity keeps pace with rising demand across health, aged care and disability. A future-ready workforce reduces service gaps, supports regional and rural access and underpins long-term system sustainability.

  3. Funding accessible care
Modernise allied health funding programs to improve access to timely, evidence-based care. Well-designed funding models support early intervention, reduce downstream costs and deliver better outcomes for individuals while improving value for public investment.
