Does sharing by default apply to you?

New legislation is changing how pathology and diagnostic imaging reports are shared through My Health Record and from 1 July 2026, some healthcare provider organisations will be required to upload reports directly.

The Australian Digital Health Agency has developed a short interactive tool to help you find out whether your organisation is in scope.

In practice: how a podiatrist uses My Health Record

"Instead of spending the first part of the session trying to establish what has already happened, I can get straight to the clinical work."

When private practice owner David Shaw started using My Health Record he found it changed the shape of his complex new patient appointments – giving him faster access to discharge summaries, imaging results, prescriptions and clinical notes before the consultation even began.

His advice to other allied health professionals? Start by looking up your own record.

Check your software. Ask your vendor

Many allied health professionals are keen to connect with national digital health systems – but in practice, what's possible often depends on your clinical software.

When software is conformant, it's easier to:

✔ connect to My Health Record ✔ use secure messaging ✔ use electronic prescribing (where relevant)

Two practical steps to get started:

Conformant software register: check whether your system is listed Agency Industry Offer: check whether your vendor is involved

Then ask your vendor: Is our software conformant? What's available now, and what's on the roadmap?
