Disability Roundtable with Minister for the NDIS

AHPA recently hosted a sector-wide, disability-focused Roundtable with Senator the Hon Jenny McAllister, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

With representatives from 22 allied health associations in attendance, discussions signalled the beginning of a constructive and effective ongoing relationship with the Minister and her Office.

The Roundtable focused on three keys areas of reform:

1. NDIS Therapy Pricing Policy

2. Thriving Kids and Foundational Supports

3. Evidence-Based Therapy Supports

The discussion provided a valuable opportunity to:

• showcase the importance of early and ongoing consultation with the allied health sector

• explore the intersection between Thriving Kids and the NDIS

• emphasise the need for meaningful allied health input into the design and implementation of Thriving Kids

• advocate for greater transparency in therapy support policy reviews, coupled with deeper engagement with professional associations and expert clinicians to guide these reviews.

This was an important opportunity to engage directly with government on reform priorities and to reinforce the vital role of the allied health sector.

Allied Health Industry Reference Group

Key stakeholders from across the allied health sector, including allied health peak associations, came together at Parliament House on Tuesday 2 September for a full-day event hosted by Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Rebecca White, and Chief Allied Health Officer, Anita Hobson-Powell.

The forum provided an important opportunity for AHPA and peak associations to share their insights on key reform areas including primary care, Support at Home, digital integration and workforce planning.

Transforming health professions regulation in Australia – Final report released

The Transforming health professionals regulation in Australia: Independent Review Final Report was released on Friday.

The report presents the findings of the Independent Review of Complexity in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for health practitioners – aiming to streamline and future-proof regulation across the health workforce.

2025 AHPA Member Policy Symposium

AHPA’s 2025 Member Policy Symposium will be held on Thursday 16 October, starting with a President & CEO Networking Breakfast, followed by a full-day Symposium focused on delivering effective government relations strategy.

The event will highlight practical approaches for working with government and members to shape policy, build influence, and deliver advocacy campaigns.
