AHPA gives evidence at NDIS Amendment Bill hearings

This week, AHPA provided evidence at the public hearings into the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.

AHPA does not support the Bill in its current form. As drafted, the Bill prioritises financial sustainability over the rights and needs of people with disability. Without meaningful amendment, it risks causing real harm to NDIS participants and risks undermining the Scheme's foundational principles.

Our key concerns and recommendations are detailed in AHPA’s submission to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee. In addition, AHPA's CEO has met with parliamentarians and senior advisors across Labor, the Coalition, and the crossbench to raise these concerns directly and advocate strongly for amendments.

The NDIS must remain what it was designed to be: a Scheme that puts people with disability first.

AHPA advances discussions on Thriving Kids across jurisdictions

AHPA has continued its engagement with federal and state representatives as disability reforms progress, with a strong focus on the rollout of Thriving Kids.

This week, AHPA met with Dr Anne Webster MP to discuss the disability reform agenda and the implementation of Thriving Kids. We outlined our concerns about how the current reforms, and the approach to Thriving Kids, may impact allied health providers and people with disability.

We also met with The Hon Natasha Maclaren Jones MLC, Shadow Minister for Disability Inclusion in NSW, late last month to discuss the NSW rollout of Thriving Kids, highlighting issues such as the limited involvement of the experienced private allied health workforce.

AHPA will return to Canberra later this month to continue these discussions.

In the media: AHPA examines early impacts of aged care reforms

AHPA is featured in the latest edition of Australian Health & Aged Care with Policy & Advocacy Senior Advisor Dr Chris Atmore examining how aged care reforms are unfolding since the new Aged Care Act commenced in late 2025.

The piece questions whether the reforms have genuinely moved the system beyond rationing and towards real accountability for providing aged care services, particularly allied health care, for all people who need them.

Supporting the call for progression of First Nations aged care reform

As an associate member of NATSIAACC, the national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing and Aged Care, AHPA strongly supports the recent joint statement calling for urgent progression of outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aged Care reform commitments.
